KAMPALA, UGANDA — Senior leadership from Marasa Africa, operator of four of Uganda’s leading safari lodges under the Madhvani Group, met this week with leadership of the Uganda Hotels, Food, Tourism, Supermarkets & Allied Workers’ Union (HTS-Union), led by General Secretary Moses R. Mauku, at the company’s head office in Kampala. The engagement forms part of an ongoing dialogue between the two organisations aimed at strengthening relations and reinforcing shared commitments to decent work across Marasa’s properties.

Marasa Africa operates Silverback Lodge, Chobe Safari Lodge, Paraa Safari Lodge and Mweya Safari Lodge, spanning some of Uganda’s most iconic protected landscapes. The company is currently undertaking a significant repositioning programme, including major refurbishment investment, as part of its move toward international luxury lodge standards — a transition that touches every part of the business, including its people practices.

HTS-Union represents workers across Uganda’s hotel, food, tourism, supermarket and allied sectors, and has a long-standing record of engagement with employers in the hospitality industry, including collective bargaining agreements with major international hotel brands operating in the country.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both parties to review the current state of industrial relations across Marasa’s lodges, discuss workforce priorities as the group’s transformation programme progresses, and agree on a framework for continued, constructive engagement going forward.
