On 22 August, members of the Silverback Lodge team joined the Buhoma community for Run4Indigenous Trees 2026, organized by the Africa Conservation Program (ACP).
Held under the theme “Growing Roots. Planting the Future,” the event brought together a 5 km community run, indigenous tree planting and activities centered around conservation and community participation.
For the Silverback team, it was an opportunity to take part in an initiative happening right here in Buhoma, alongside the communities and landscapes that form such an important part of the Bwindi experience.
Conservation rooted in the community
Africa Conservation Program is a community-based conservation initiative founded in Uganda and rooted in Bwindi. Its work brings together conservation, cultural preservation and youth engagement, with programmes that include tree planting, environmental education and support for locally led conservation efforts.
The organization also works with community partners around Bwindi to help preserve indigenous knowledge and Batwa cultural heritage.
Run4Indigenous Trees is part of that wider effort, encouraging communities to restore local ecosystems through the planting and protection of indigenous trees.
Silverback Lodge was pleased to have members of the team take part and support an initiative being driven from within the Buhoma community.
Small actions, carried forward together, are part of keeping Bwindi and its surrounding communities thriving.
